........and I'm ready! For four straight weeks it's been absolutely beautiful here. Perfectly sunny and warm for spring in Anchorage. My mom flies in Friday and I take the day off to spend with her...it's RAINING. UGH! She had just spent in week in Seattle with my sister and it was rainy most of the time there. Good thing about Anchorage, it doesn't rain for days like back home. So by the afternoon it had cleared up. Saturday morning, Travis, my mom, and I headed out for a long walk along the Campbell Creek Trail. One of the really cool things about Anchorage is that there are all these amazing trails EVERYWHERE. When we got back, I had to race off to softball. Why is it that you always get hurt playing at practice. Getting a "war wound" is never as honorable at just practice..so a rundown of hurts? Line drive straight to the shin (let me add that I couldn't feel the surface of that skin for atleast 6 hours afterwards and it looked like a growth on my leg), nail snapped in half and pulled off from the skin, and then a broken blood vessell in my hand that look like a purple blowfish. Now I would like to have said "...in the last few minutes of the game, it was tied up, I was running as hard as humanly possible around the third base heading for home..the winning point...when I slid in just as the catcher was catching the ball to tag me out...and I injured myself (previously noted), but WON THE GAME!" Doesn't that sound much better? I agree. Instead I went home to my mom and whined like a baby about it and now I have a game tonight that will indeed have no good story like the one I just made up.
Well after that, Travis, my mom, and I took bikes down to the Coastal Trail for a long bike ride. The sun was out, the people were out, and it was the most beautiful afternoon ever. We went to dinner with friends that night and just spent some good time hanging out. I sent her home yesterday while kicking and screaming...naturally, I wanted to keep her longer but she had committments back home. Secretly, I entertained the idea of telling her flights were completely oversold and she was going to have to stay for another week..I know you're thinking my moral intergrity stopped me, but that wasn't it...she has my password to check flights herself.
After she left, Travis and I headed on base to return the rental bikes and then we did a little goofing around. We got to see some cool planes and then see the Eagles that reside on base. We went and got ice cream after that and then headed to the batting cages. Side note, I hate batting helmets..we looked like Frodo and Sam in the Lord of the Rings when they dressed in the Orc get up...but it was fun. Travis is pretty good but his downfall is that he makes this horrendous face when he hits the ball...he reminded me of Corky from Life Goes On...bless him, he really is precious regardless of looking like that when he hits.
