It's been weeks since I've been up in the small plane (where it's the most enjoyable to fly). Note the reader: There may be something in my bloodstream that REQUIRES me to fly every so often or I start fading fast. Probably like most people who need Vitamin D (or the sun), I need to fly, period.
So Joe and Kathy called me up yesterday and asked if flying was on the horizon. Before I could answer I was burning rubber to their house.
We flew to Girdwood and landed there. Let me take a moment to describe Girdwood...it's this quaint little hippie town at the base of Alyeska ski resort. During the winter it's great fun since it's a huge ski area. The summer is just beautiful and you can take a tram up to the resort at the top(picture included). They also have these paragliders that jump off the mountain and you better believe that's on my list to do! I'm pretty sure that everyone , with the exception of 2.5% of the population that lives there year round, are high on marijuana. I'm also pretty certain that a good chunk of that percentage are also permanantly high. I in fact believe I met one yesterday when trying to find our way back to the airport we stumbled upon some locals having a bonfire and roasting marshmallows on the beach of the river. While I regret not getting a picture of her to show you, I did find a close second to give you an idea.
When we asked her if we could get to the runway from there she was ADAMANT that we could not, as there was a fence all along the river that blocked you from getting back up onto the runway. (Fact: not true)Anyway, we walked into town..or so they call it. We went to this cute little place called Chair 5 and had Pizza.
When we finally made it back to the plane we went to takeoff only to come to a screeching halt at the end of the runway. My heart was in my throat and I wanted you to see the panick I was feeling so I captured this lovely look for you.

Take 2, made it off just fine and headed for home. It was the perfect afternoon/evening and it was just what I needed.
