False Break Up...

So here in AK, they call spring time "Break up". It's when the ice and snow
starts to literally break up and you see proof of life again under it all. It's
usually wet, dirty, and messy. Not super fun and definitely not pretty. Cars
are dirty as heck, you use more windshield wiper fluid in two weeks than people
elsewhere use in a year. There is a time (NOW) called "False Break up" though
where it seems winter is over, the clouds are clearing and spring is in the
air...only when you are SURE that's the case, it snows three feet. Usually the
real break up is in April or sometimes May. The lakes start getting warmer and
that leads to my weekend. I have yet again attempted my Olympic dream and hit
the ice again. Quick side note..on our way there we saw this precious little
baby moose wandering around so I snapped a couple pics...cute right?! Ok, back
on track..we get to the ice and Rich and I were meeting his sister, brother in
law, and their little 5 year old Luke..whom I like to call Luke Skywalker.
Super excited to skate with him but we get there and he is little Mr. Grumpy
pants!! You know when kids are super tired and if you look at them, they just
start crying? Yeah...that's pretty much the situation on Saturday. As grumpster
as he was, he's still so stinkin cute in ice skates and a helmet so we made the
best of it. The worst part however is that the ice is getting warmer so the ice
is lumpy and slushy, not good for a beginner. We took hockey sticks and pucks
to mess around and I became so focused on hitting the puck that I forgot I'm a
newby on skates...DANGEROUS BAYDO! But hey..how else will I get Olympic quality
if I don't take risks right? (Don't worry Grandpa, I'm being careful)
Disclaimer: I just got my hair done that morning so the koolaid stain around my
scalp you see is just because of the dye from that morning..nice huh?
