Lady Luck....

I can't believe how time flies...it seems just a few months ago I was blogging about the Winter King Derby in Homer. Well, sound the fog horn folks...it is time once again! It's an annual fishing trip that USUALLY comes home empty handed. The truth is that we go to HOPEFULLY catch a king that's a winner but REALLY it ends up being about the boat ride, the hot beer battered halibut, the fresh clam chowder, and camping on the beach in the winter. It's one of my favorite things to do. We started out Saturday morning and were at the dock by 7:30am. Headed out of the harbor by 8. Being the only girl on a boat of 5, I was sure to be some sort of luck charm. About 25 minutes in, sure enough, lady luck strikes!! I was so excited as I reeled that babe in!! All the guys were rooting me on but I know that somewhere in the back of their minds, they wanted to shove me right off the edge of the boat. You see, they have been coming for 10+ years and NEVER caught a fish during this derby. Anyway, back to my glory...I reel the baby in, only to discover it was a stupid cod fish. Well, it didn't matter...in the end, I'm still the only one who had a fish on! We fished straight until 3:30pm and finally called it a day.Coming back into the harbor, what do I see??? Deadliest Catch's Time Bandit! I am such a fan, I want to slap myself. I got Rich to take this gay picture of me with it in the background but you know what? Don't judge me, I was so excited!! When you get into the harbor, headquarters has fresh beer battered halibut waiting for you, beer, fresh clam chowder...all free and might I say..rather welcoming! SUPER FUN RIGHT??
So then we had back to our buddy's sister's house which has the most incredible views of the bay. We had dinner and just hung out til it was time to get our camping spot on the beach and watch the sun go down. Got all nestled in our zero bags and we crashed hard. Woke up this morning to the waves crashing feet away from us and the most incredible sunrise. (are you jealous yet???)So, then we head to my most favorite place called the Duncan House. It's this cute little breakfast place that I love to go to everytime we are in Homer. We hit the road after that...it was a perfect weekend...great weather, great company, even better food, and of course...Lady Luck. I wonder if Rich knows just how lucky he is???
